Lakeland, FL — Watson Clinic will celebrate their 75th anniversary in 2016. The Clinic began as a medical group comprised of two surgeons, two internists and a urologist operating in modest office space in downtown Lakeland.
Today, Watson Clinic touches every corner of the community with their sprawling Main Clinic location at 1600 Lakeland Hills Boulevard in Lakeland, and 16 regional sites across Polk, Hillsborough and Pasco counties, including family practice locations in Bartow and Plant City and dermatology offices in Sun City Center and Zephyrhills. Other medical offices include the new Highlands location, the Center for Rehabilitative Medicine, Kidney Center, Behavioral Health Division at Edgewood, South Lakeland and North Pediatrics. Our Cancer & Research Center location – the only local affiliate of the Moffitt Oncology Network – has consistently been awarded three-year accreditations by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, and was even recognized with an Outstanding Achievement Award by that same prestigious organization in 2013.
Watson Clinic has grown into one of the largest and most respected clinics in the Southeast. One of the area’s top employers, the Clinic hosts a team of more than 1500 physicians, medical providers and additional support staff. Together, they serve close to a million outpatient visits per year across 40 medical and surgical specialties.
“This anniversary is an opportunity for us to reflect on the significant impact the Watson Clinic has had on the health of our community,” says Dr. Louis S. Saco, the Chief Executive Officer and a practicing gastroenterologist at Watson Clinic. “We have been entrusted by generations of patients to oversee all their healthcare needs. We take this trust very seriously and are always striving to give our patients the very best care.”
Over the years, Watson Clinic’s exceptional caliber of care has been recognized by some of the most prestigious organizations in the industry. In 1969, Watson Clinic was the first medical clinic in the United States to receive accreditation by the American Association of Medical Clinics. Since that time, they have continued to voluntarily participate in a series of rigorous examinations by the industry’s most respected patient advocacy groups. This devotion to setting the standard has resulted in the Clinic’s status as a Patient Centered Medical Home by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), and multiple accreditations by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAAHC).
Watson Clinic’s legacy has reached far beyond the walls of their medical facilities. For decades, the Clinic has served as the official medical provider for the Lakeland Flying Tigers and the Detroit Tigers Florida Operations. Whether participating independently or in conjunction with the Watson Clinic Foundation – the philanthropic arm of Watson Clinic – their support and involvement has also proven essential in raising awareness and funds for everything from cancer research to heart attack prevention.
The Clinic plans to celebrate their 75th anniversary throughout the year with various events, advertising campaigns, social media contests and more.
