(SARASOTA, Fla., January 22, 2016) Manasota SCORE honored David Chism of Chism Manufacturing as its 2016 Client of the Year at their annual Awards Luncheon on January 22, 2016. Chism is the first client to receive the award a second time. Chism started the business in 2009 with a $7,500 credit card loan and ended 2015 with over $1.3 million in sales. Richard “King” Barnard and Bill Coole have mentored Chism as he has grown the business.
Ralph Warmack, District Chair and a member of the Pinellas chapter, announced that he had selected Manasota SCORE as District Chapter of the Year for a second time.
The luncheon featured a keynote address presented by Kevin Cooper of the Gulf Coast Community Foundation. Speaking on “The Next BIG Thing,” Cooper shared information about efforts to develop this area as a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem. He said that would require “leaders and feeders,” and he identified the Foundation as being capable of feeding efforts, but experienced entrepreneurs, like SCORE volunteers, were needed to serve as leaders.
The chapter recognized the outstanding contributions of five volunteers and invited them to join the Manasota Stars: Peter Gruits, Dennis Hernreich, Pat Loftus, Stefan Sommerfield and Ron Tucker. The addition of these volunteers raised the total number of stars to 27, with 19 still serving as active members. Six volunteers who were already chosen as Stars received additional stars for their significant contributions to the organization over the past year: Doug Barber, King Barnard, Joe May, Jim Repp, Alan Richards and Jon Stuart. Manasota Star awards were established in 2013, with an initial group of 12 volunteers selected to receive the honor.
