Computer Mentors will be hosting its third annual Teen Business Competition on the week-end of February 19 through the 21st. As such they are currently recruiting up to 20 high school aged students and 40 volunteers to assist with the effort.
This year’s event, which is being sponsored by Connectwise and Suncoast Federal Credit Union, is being held on the campus of Hillsborough Community College’s (HCC) Ybor City campus.
Teen Business Competition (TBC) is an annual event that gives teens a great way to explore entrepreneurship in a weekend filled with fun, learning, exploring, and hard work. High-school-aged teens, 14 through 18 years of age, and living in Hillsborough County are qualified to apply. Twenty teens will be selected and placed into teams of five (5) which will compete. The event kicks off on Friday evening and includes five (5) challenges, culminating in a final “Pitch Challenge” on Sunday afternoon in front of a panel of “Angel Investor” type judges. Prizes worth over $8,000, including cash prizes to the winners will be awarded.
To make the event a success, Computer Mentors needs about 40 volunteers to participate. Volunteer positions include SME’s (subject matter experts) to provide motivational speeches to kick off each round of the 5 round competition. Additionally, our biggest need is for 20 coaches needed to assist teams through one round of the competition. We also have a need for greeters to guide our guests, setup and breakdown crews, and judges to assist with the final “Pitch” competition which culminates the event.
