(SARASOTA, Fla., December 28, 2015) Manasota SCORE volunteers learned about the ways SCORE Foundation supports SCORE chapters and the national SCORE Association when the foundation’s president, David R. Bobbitt, spoke at the chapter’s December membership meeting.
Bobbitt explained that the foundation raises funds from the private sector that are used in a variety of ways to support SCORE, such as developing new business education programs and tools (including workshop materials in Spanish), providing awards and recognition for chapters and small businesses, assisting with new chapter startups, and forging partnerships with corporations that offer discounted goods and services to member chapters and mentoring clients through the foundation’s website: www.scorefoundation.org/martketplace.
Bobbitt shared stories of corporations that started as small businesses working with SCORE mentors, including Jelly Belly Candy Company, Allen Edmonds Shoe Corportation, Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers and Vera Bradley. The founder of Vera Bradley, who started the business with a $500 family loan, reached out to SCORE when she was struggling to get the business off the ground. The company now boasts $190 million in sales worldwide.
He also announced the expansion of the SCORE Small Business Champion Awards. In addition to two $1,000 awards for two winners from every state, the 2016 awards will include a Grand Champion Award, with a $25,000 cash prize.
SCORE clients rate their experience using a net promoter score (NPS). Bobbitt commended the chapter for its high NPS score, based on client surveys of how likely they are to recommend Manasota SCORE. “Your score of 83% puts you at the same level of customer satisfaction as Apple and Mercedes Benz.”
Manasota SCORE Chair, Dennis Zink, said, “Our high Net Promoter Score is a direct result of our chapter-wide level of commitment to SCORE clients by our 61 dedicated volunteer mentors.”
