Big Brothers Big Sisters join Rays players and mascots as special guests at the annual illuminated parade on Feb. 13
TAMPA, Fla. (December 17, 2015) – The 2016 Krewe of Sant’ Yago Knight Parade, presented by MOR-TV, will feature the Tampa Bay Rays as grand marshals, the Krewe announced today. A Tampa tradition since the 1970s, the illuminated parade will take place on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016 in historic Ybor City.
“The Knights of Sant’ Yago are big fans of the Tampa Bay Rays’ work on and off the field,” said Louis Campanello, Krewe of the Knights of Sant’ Yago member and parade chairman. “The Rays have a tremendous impact on our community and we look forward to highlighting their great work.”
In addition, Big Brothers Big Sisters has been selected to join Tampa Bay Rays players, coaches, mascots and street team members as special guests. The nonprofit organization has been a community partner with the Tampa Bay Rays for more than 10 years, with more than 30 staffers serving as mentors for kids in the organization.
The Knight Parade is part of an entire weekend of festivities hosted by the Krewe of Sant’ Yago. The Knight Parade weekend kicks off on Friday, February 12 with a pub crawl in Ybor City. On Saturday afternoon, pre-parade activities with the Rays and other special guests will take place in Centro Ybor. More details will be announced soon.
On Saturday evening, the Knight Parade begins at 7 p.m. as illuminated floats, led by the Tampa Bay Rays and Big Brothers Big Sisters, roll down Seventh Avenue in historic Ybor City. The floats are accompanied by dozens of marching bands, local dignitaries, thousands of participants and scores of beads. This year, the Knight Parade Crash Party will start at The Cuban Club immediately after the parade and run until midnight.
“Once again, the Krewe of Sant’ Yago has made an excellent choice for the Knight Parade’s grand marshal,” said Pamela Barber, President and General Manager of MOR-TV. “Having the Rays involved will certainly bring an added level of excitement to the 2016 parade. MOR is pleased to continue its support of the Knight Parade and looks forward to working with the Rays.”
Proceeds from the Knight Parade benefit the Krewe of the Knights of Sant’ Yago Education Foundation, which has provided more than $2 million in higher education scholarships for deserving local students.
