(Jacksonville, FL) – Advanced Window Tinting, an authorized 3M Prestige Window Film Dealer, scored a touchdown when the Jacksonville-based company installed 17,000 square feet of film at EverBank Field, home of the city’s NFL franchise, just two weeks before the team kicked off its 2015 season.
“To do this job at EverBank Field was huge,” Rick Tillman, owner of Advanced Window Tinting, said. “Everybody knows the stadium, and everyone around here has been to an NFL game there.”
Prior to the start of football season, SMG Inc., the company that manages operations at EverBank Field, faced a challenge. The stadium’s east and west club sections, where fans pay as much as $250 per ticket, were too hot. Fans were unable to enjoy the sections’ beautiful views of the field and vistas of downtown Jacksonville because of the intensity of the Florida sun. With less than three weeks until the start of the season, SMG brought in Advanced Window Tinting to do address the problem.
It took just seven days for Advanced Window Tinting, using two sets of three-tiered scaffolding, six window tinters and a 40-foot boom lift, to complete the job. The 17,000 square feet of 3M Prestige 50 that were installed in the club sections have reduced heat by 97 percent and solar energy by 63 percent, not only making the game experience more pleasant for fans, but also saving SMG up to 30 percent on cooling costs.
In addition to reducing energy bills, the new tinting also means that club section carpeting and furniture will need to be replaced less often. Before the new tinting, SMG swapped window-adjacent furniture in the club sections every year. Now, Tillman said, furniture can last up to 10 years, which will mean major savings as the club sections are decked out with couches, chairs and large-screen televisions under the NFL team’s current ownership.
“It will save thousands on energy every month,” Tillman said of the project. “But the savings on furniture could be even more significant. Tinting also makes the glass safer. It won’t shatter if it breaks, and it’s recommended by the American Skin Cancer Foundation. It’s like having SPF 1000 on the glass all the time.”
Three years ago, Advanced Window Tinting stripped and re-tinted the windows of EverBank Field’s skybox suites and press box using 3M Prestige 70. After the project’s completion, heat sensors were placed in a suite with the 3M tinting and in an un-tinted suite next to it. The air conditioning was turned off for seven days. At the end of the week, the temperature was 12 degrees cooler in the suite with the 3M tinting.
SMG has been so pleased with the projects that Advanced Window Tinting has completed at EverBank Field that it has already contracted Tillman’s company to tint an additional 8,000 square feet of skybox windows using 3M Prestige 50 after the 2015 NFL season wraps up. The tinting will further improve the viewing experience at EverBank Field, a stadium that has seen over $60 million in renovations since 2013.
