Tampa, FL (December 4, 2015) – Each year, Schifino Lee celebrates the holiday season through Random Acts of Merry, as a way to give back to the community or various charitable causes. This year, we will be creating a social media campaign asking you and the Tampa Bay Community to join us in our efforts. To get involved, take a photo of a random act of kindness and share it on social media with #randomactsofmerry. Examples of these acts include dropping off food/clothes at a homeless shelter, paying for a stranger’s lunch order, or helping and elderly neighbor hang their holiday lights. All photos shared with our hashtag will be aggregated onto our campaign landing page, www.actsofmerry.com through a live social feed. The campaign will launch on December 12th and run until December 25th.
Schifino Lee will spotlight three main charities as a part of our outreach – The Humane Society of Tampa Bay, The Salvation Army of Tampa and onbikes.
Participants can specifically support one of our featured charities by tagging the charity of their choice within their social media post. As an incentive, Schifino Lee will match each tag with a donation to that specific charity. Donations from Schifino Lee will come in the form of food, blankets, toys, etc for the Humane Society, canned food and toiletries for the Salvation Army and employee participation in onbikes’ “Bike Build” on December 5th at the Amalie Arena.
The Humane Society of Tampa Bay
Mission: Dedicated to ending animal homelessness and providing care and comfort for companion animals in need.
The Humane Society of Tampa Bay is a “No Kill for Space” shelter, which means this shelter will not euthanize an animal to make space for another animal. They are committed to a community approach to help lower the euthanasia in our county. The Humane Society of Tampa also proudly hosts an aggressive transfer program which takes in animals from other shelters that are open admission and house animals that are at risk of being euthanized.
On December 12th, The Humane Society of Tampa Bay is pairing with Mastro Subaru for their annual “Stuff the Subaru” event. They ask the community to bring pet food and toy donations by Mastro Subaru and enjoy an afternoon of holiday festivities. The goal of this event is to fill up an entire Subaru with donated pet food. Visitors will be able to meet with adorable adoptable animals while enjoying a free BBQ lunch.
Mission: We are a non-profit organization that delivers new bicycles to at-risk and foster children in our local community. We primarily raise our funds through our annual city-wide bike ride, called the Winter Wonder Ride. Because every kid deserves a bike.
onbikes is a Tampa based non-profit organization that was formed in 2011 when a group of friends organized a community bike ride during the winter holiday season to raise funds so at- risk kids could receive their very first bike. It was an incredible success, and it was then that onbikes was born. onbikes does their part to restore the self-confidence, health, and overall well- being of at-risk kids in the local community. Last year, onbikes had approximately 1,400 participants and gave away more than 500 bikes. This year, they expect almost double the amount of participants and plan to donate over 550 bikes.
On December 5th onbikes will host their official Bike Build as a part of their sponsorship with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Schifino Lee will participate in this event, building bikes that will go to at- risk children in foster care this holiday season. The event will be held on the ice at Amelia Arena with a showing of Elf on the jumbotron and various Holiday activities for everyone to enjoy.
The Salvation Army of Tampa
Mission: The Salvation Army in Hillsborough County exists to save souls, grow saints and serve suffering humanity.
The Salvation Army of Tampa was founded in 1893. For the last 122 years, this organization has had a life-changing impact in the Tampa community. In 2014, approximately 74,000 nights of shelter were provided and more than 111,000 meals served to men, women and children in Hillsborough County. In early 2014, The Salvation Army Tampa Area Command opened its first temporary shelter program for adult victims of human trafficking. This soon became the first approved human trafficking program in the state of Florida.
The Salvation Army of Tampa Bay needs volunteers
throughout the month of December to organize Angle Tree gifts and prepare the Holiday Toyshop for gift distribution to needy families. Volunteers are needed Monday-Saturday from 9:00am- 6:00pm. Contact Jerry.Stickney@uss.salvationarmy.org for more information.
