Pre-K program will bring arts and sciences to life for local kids
(Sarasota, FL) – The PNC Foundation recently donated $12,000 to Children First, Inc., for its educational programs serving hundreds of at-risk children and their families in Sarasota County.
The PNC grant will enhance the Children First early learning programs for young children from ages six weeks to five years, which build a foundation to help them overcome adversity and achieve their dreams. PNC supports early childhood education throughout the nation, with the PNC Foundation’s charitable grants and its PNC Grow Up Great initiative.
“Children have a better chance of succeeding when there’s instruction outside of the classroom that include hands-on learning before the age of 5,” said PNC Regional President Joe Meterchick, speaking on behalf of the PNC Foundation. “We all benefit from our volunteerism and financial support of Children First because in the long run, it’s an investment in the future of the Gulf Coast and, inevitably, one that helps children broaden their opportunities for social and economic mobility.”
PNC employees are allotted 40 hours annually for volunteering. During the past year, PNC employees from local branches, wealth management offices, and other lines of business donated more than 100 hours of their time at Children First sites in various volunteer roles. They helped in the classroom with the children, spread mulch on the playgrounds, assisted at some of Children First’s events and helped with administrative tasks.
“I cannot express enough how much we appreciate not only the funds from the PNC Foundation, but the personal involvement from the volunteers,” said President and CEO of Children First Philip Tavill. “The continued support of community partners like PNC make it possible for Children First to maintain the high level of quality in our programs, and we are extremely grateful.”
The large number of volunteer hours from PNC employees helped Children First to receive a PNC Foundation grant, which was matched through the PNC Grow Up Great program. The total $12,000 from grants and sponsorship contributions will help more local children to obtain the early education and important comprehensive services provided at Children First.
