World AIDS Day: Faces of AIDS
Tuesday, Dec. 1, 6:30 p.m., Wireman Chapel
In honor of World AIDS Day, a panel discussion will focus on the growing epidemic of HIV/AIDS and how we can heal ourselves and our communities. About 1.2 million people have been infected with HIV in the United States and Florida has the highest rate of infection. The infection rate in Pinellas County has increased by over 30 percent in the past year. Since the beginning, HIV/AIDS has been a disease stigmatized due to gender, race, class and sexual taboos. This event features a panel of people directly affected by the epidemic, squares from the AIDS Quilt and a candlelight vigil for those who have been lost.
State Sen. Jeff Brandes
Wednesday, Dec. 9, 4 p.m., Lewis House
State Sen. Jeff Brandes discusses the upcoming legislative session and his priorities for Pinellas and Hillsborough counties. Part of the Academy of Senior Professionals at Eckerd College (ASPEC) Forum Series.
