November 5. 2011, Tampa, FL–Wheels of Success, a Tampa Bay nonprofit organization that provides transportation solutions to local families so that they can maintain their employment, will be handing over the keys to the charity’s newest recipient at Powerstories Theatre‘s presentation of “Decision Height” a story about friendship and the role of women in wartime. The keys to success will be handed to our veteran by Karen Mertes, Lt. Col. (Ret.), USAF, Founder and President of Fulfill Your Destiny, Inc. The presentation will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the theater, 2105 West Kennedy Blvd., Tampa on Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11.
Our newest client, Rebecca O. is single mother of two young boys and a U.S. Navy veteran. After moving to the Tampa Bay area to escape an abusive relationship, Rebecca O. found full-time employment with Walt Disney, as she describes “a happy place to work”. Though Rebecca O. could take the bus to work, her late hours left her stranded with no way to return home. The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay referred her to Wheels of Success in hopes of finding a transportation solution because being able get to and from work – at any hour – is vital to keeping working families on the road to success.
One of our generous vehicle donors turned over her 2002 Audi A4 to the program and the DAV Charitable Service Trust funded repairs to make it roadworthy. As said by Joe Clark, former Eckerd Family Foundation president, “The best social service program is a job.”
The DAV Charitable Services Trust supports physical and psychological rehabilitation programs that provide direct service to ill, injured or wounded veterans. Recognizing that veterans and their families can sometimes face unforeseen consequences to their family life as a result of their service, DAV Charitable Services Trust supports organizations that provide services focused on improving the quality of life for veterans and their families.
