The historic Friday Morning Musicale will host a reception for nationally recognized educator and author, Dr. Terese M. Tuohey, on Thursday, November 19, 2015. Dr. Tuohey has recently written a historical journal article entitled “The Study of Music in all its varied branches: the Friday Morning Musicale”. The article presents the history of how community clubs promoted music education in the early 1900s.
Dr. Tuohey is currently an Assistant Professor and Thesis Advisor for the College of the
Arts/School of Music at the University of Florida and a Dissertation Supervisor for the
School of Music, Boston University. She holds a Master of Music in Music Education from Eastman School of Music and a PhD in Music Education from Kent State University. Dr. Tuohey is the author of numerous journal articles and books on music, ranging from “Music of the Middle East”, to “Why do humans value music?” and “Chinese Percussion Ensembles”.
About the Friday Morning Musicale:
Built in 1926, the Musicale building in Hyde Park has been a meeting place for many
community organizations. The 3851 seat auditorium is available as a rental space for
concerts, meetings, weddings and church services. The building , designed by Frank
Dunham, is an example of Mediterranean Revival style design and is located at 809 Horatio Street in Tampa. The Musicale was founded to promote music and provides scholarship!
