TAMPA, Fla. – (Oct. 30, 2015) – GTE Financial, one of Florida’s largest credit unions, has named former Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor to its Supervisory Committee.

GTE’s Supervisory Committee’s role is to ensure that the nonprofit credit union’s financial records are in order and that internal controls are in place to protect the assets of the credit union and its members.
Castor retired in May 2015 from her position as chief of the Tampa Police Department, after serving with the department for 31 years. She has been recognized both locally and nationally for redefining community policing and driving down the crime rate with her innovative approaches to fighting crime. A graduate of the University of Tampa, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminology, she also holds a master’s degree of Public Administration from Troy State University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. She has served on the board of the Major City Chiefs Association and is a member of Harvard’s Executive Session on Policing and Public Safety.
Most recently, Castor was part of the GTE Foundation’s scholarship judging committee and helped select 36 local high school and undergraduate students to receive academic scholarships of $2,500 each. Castor also emceed the foundation’s fourth annual scholarship awards luncheon.
