(ST. PETERSBURG, FL) – 3 Daughters Brewing, the largest craft brewery in St. Petersburg, is launching its fourth can, this time as a tribute to United States veterans. The can celebrates 3 Daughters Brewing’s inaugural My Hero series, with all proceeds being donated to the Navy SEAL Foundation.
Code named Tango Yankee (military shorthand for TY or “Thank You”), the beer is an American Wheat Ale available in a limited edition can. The first can in the series is especially meaningful to 3 Daughters Brewing, as it will feature Bruce Wells Harting, grandfather to the three girls who inspired the name for the brewery. While 3 Daughters Brewing selected its own veteran hero for 2015, they anticipate in each subsequent year to select a hero from nominations submitted by the community. Each annual Tango Yankee can will reflect a unique story of bravery and heroism of a special veteran.
“This is one small way that we can honor the brave men and women who have served selflessly to defend our freedom,” says Mike Harting, CEO of 3 Daughters Brewing. “It’s our chance to say thank you to our military service members who sacrifice so much every day.”
Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Bruce Wells Harting earned his Purple Heart after being shot in combat on the morning of April 5, 1966 in Dak To, Vietnam on the Laotian border while serving with 3rd Platoon, C Company, 7th Calvary, 1st Calvary Division. Read the full story about Bruce Harting here:
The design on the first Tango Yankee can was inspired by a drawing created by soldiers Bruce instructed in Officer Candidate School years later. Using only what they had – plywood from the dumpster, Army barracks green paint and pencils for drawing – one of the candidates sketched Bruce being helped off the battlefield by a medic. It is a symbol of the courage and bravery our heroes display every day.
3 Daughters Brewing will be filling the Tango Yankee cans on Friday, October 30th. We invite the public and media to come out and meet veteran Navy SEALs and the My Hero honoree. Festivities will start at 5:00 and we will have live music and food available. Beginning Monday, November 9th, this limited edition My Hero series beer will be available in select Winn Dixie stores throughout Tampa, St Petersburg and Sarasota. 3 Daughters Brewing will also host a special celebration on Veterans Day with music and a food truck.
Nominations for future My Hero honorees can be submitted at firstname.lastname@example.org.
