New leader brings extensive experience in economic development, public policy and advocacy
TAMPA BAY, FLA. (October 12, 2015) – The Tampa Bay Partnership is excited to announce that it has chosen Rick Homans as its new President and CEO to lead the regional economic development organization. The Partnership conducted a nationwide search and interviewed candidates from throughout the United States and Florida before selecting Homans, currently President and CEO of the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation (EDC).
“This is a pivotal moment for the Tampa Bay Partnership as we welcome Rick Homans as the new President and CEO,” said Tampa Bay Partnership Chair and Fifth Third Bank (North Florida) Regional President Brian Lamb. “The organization has been on a steady and focused trajectory to thoroughly vet candidates to find its next highly motivated leader, and we were fortunate enough to have found the right candidate from within the region. I am confident that Rick is the right person for the job as his extensive experience closely aligns with the strategic direction of the organization, which will focus on solidifying ‘one voice’ for the region.”
“I am excited to join the Tampa Bay Partnership team and cannot wait to hit the ground running,” said Homans. “Over the last 20+ years, the Partnership has built a strong legacy of service to the region. As we move forward, we will harness the collective power of the business and political leaders of Tampa Bay so that we can influence issues, such as transportation and workforce, which impact our economic growth and provide real value to our economic development partners. The Tampa Bay Partnership provides the platform for the region to have one voice, and we intend to be heard loud and clear.”
Homans said he was proud of the work he has done with the board of the EDC to build an organization that has a professional staff in place, is producing excellent results and is secure financially.
“Choosing a leader with both an economic development background and public policy experience is a major asset for Tampa Bay,” said Bay Area Legislative Delegation (BALD) Chair Senator John Legg. “BALD looks forward to strengthening its relationship with Rick Homans and the Tampa Bay Partnership as it works towards making the Tampa Bay region the preeminent business destination in the country.”
Homans will officially join the Partnership November 9 after serving nearly four years as the President and CEO of the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation. Prior to that, he served in the cabinet of Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico, as Secretary of Economic Development and, subsequently, as Secretary of Taxation and Revenue. Additionally, Homans served as the President of a New Mexico-based publishing group, and he founded the New Mexico Business Weekly. He hails from Boston and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in English from Beloit College in Wisconsin.
“Rick Homans has shown proven economic development success through his work with the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation. In 2015 alone, he has worked to expand and relocate a number of highly recognized companies to the region, such as Johnson & Johnson, Ashley Furniture and Cognizant,” said Florida Secretary of Commerce and President and CEO of Enterprise Florida Bill Johnson. “Economic development success relies heavily on partnerships, and Homans is a team player who will help lead the region and show the power of working together to affect economic change in Tampa Bay.”
“With a demonstrated track record of working with state agencies, I am certain that the experience Rick Homans brings to the table will have positive effects on the Tampa Bay region and the state of Florida as a whole,” said President and CEO of the Florida Chamber Mark Wilson.
“A results-driven leader, Rick Homans is the ideal person to lead the charge in improving the region’s competitiveness and economic prosperity,” said Chairwoman of the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners Sandy Murman. “He is exactly what the Tampa Bay region needs to keep our economy moving forward.”
