(SARASOTA, Fla., October 8, 2014) Sarasota Music Club’s 2015-2016 performance season begins on October 16. The club, which has been sponsoring performances by professional musicians since its founding in 1930, presents member and donor supported monthly music programs that are offered free to the public (www.SarasotaMusicClub.org).
The October 16 concert features Lyn Purmort, soprano, and Bob Constantino, piano, performing as Just Friends. The program will include popular numbers “From Broadway to Hollywood.” Purmort sang in “Music Nearly Lost” at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall and has appeared at the Sarasota Opera House and as a soloist with the Florida Orchestra. Constantino, who has been performing since the age of 3, attended Manhattan School of Music and served as Musical Director for several productions at The Players Theatre.
On November 20, I Solisti d’Onecowill perform. This woodwind quintent has been performing together for over 30 years. Artists include: Dale Jensen, flute; Michelle Nicollette, oboe; Don Stewart, clarinet; Trevor Cramer, bassoon, and Gary Reinstrom, horn.
Sunnyside Singers, under the direction of Dorothy Whaley, will present a holiday music program on December 18. A holiday luncheon will follow the performance, with reservations and payment required.
Belle Canto, directed by Elizabeth Goldstein, will perform on January 15. This ensemble offers a unique and joyful “Celebration of Women’s Voices.”
On February 19, advanced violin students from Sarasota Music Academy will perfom, directed by the academy’s founder, Lena Cambis. Cambis is a principal violinist with the Sarasota Orchestra.
On March 18, a performance on Irish harp and poetry recitation will be given by Olivia Swann.
Sarasota Music Club ends the season on April 23, with performances by music scholarship winners during the Scholarship Awards Luncheon at Michael’s on East, in partnership with Artists Series Concerts. (Payment and reservations are required for this luncheon.)
Performances begin at 10:30 a.m.; refreshments and social time begins at 10 a.m. (December program starts at 11 and April luncheon begins at noon.)
