September 22, 2015
In honor of Mitochondria Awareness month, Mary Jo’s Performing Arts Academy (MJPAA) is honored to welcome McKenzie Lawrey and Drew Andersen to the Academy this Saturday, September 26, 2015 for a book signing. McKenzie and Drew are both 11 years old and know firsthand what it is like to experience the affliction of Mitochondrial Disease. Drew lost both of his siblings to Mito and McKenzie’s little brother, Gavin is currently in Hospice care. Together the two of them have pledged to raise $1,000,000 to help find a cure. They will be at MJPAA Saturday, September 26, from 10:00 am-2:00 pm selling the book that McKenzie wrote about Mitochondrial Disease. Each book costs $12 and McKenzie would love to sign your copy. All the proceeds will go to Butterflies of Hope to help find a cure.
The Academy is also selling paper light bulbs from the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation to help bring awareness to the disease. They are for sale at the front desk of the Academy for $1. In addition, the students of the Academy are collecting spare change to fill large coin jugs to help fight the disease. We encourage you to drop by the Academy Saturday between 10:00 am – 2:00 pm to purchase a book and help spread awareness for Mitochondria Disease.
Thank you so much for your generous support.
