On September 15th, a team of Stantec Tampa, FL employees headed to the Florida Aquarium to help out during the North American design firm’s third annual day of worldwide volunteerism.
The team was among some 7,300 employees participating in Stantec in the Community Day, more than 250 volunteers in Florida. The events were in celebration of Stantec’s focus on giving back to the local community and in support of the firm’s promise to design with community in mind.
Tampa’s 55-person crew, joined by The Tampa Bay Lightning volunteers, helped plant vegetation, build birdhouses, and prepare educational materials for the Florida Aquarium. The Florida Aquarium promotes environmental education and conservation by conducting marine research and operating multiple animal rescue, rehabilitation, and release programs.
“Our promise at Stantec is to design with community in mind, and we are proud that our communities cover a broad spectrum of people, geographies and services,” said Fermin A. Diaz, PE, regional leader at Stantec. “There is no better way to support our communities than through our personal involvement.”
Some examples of Stantec in the Community Day events around the Gulf region include:
• In Plano, Texas, more than 55 Stantec team members mulched trails at Coppell Nature Park, which is home to the Stantec-designed Biodiversity Education Center that serves the local community.
• In Sarasota, Florida, 40 Stantec team members were at Robinson Preserve to create oyster habitats.
• In New Orleans, Louisiana, 30 Stantec team members worked with the St. Bernard Project to help restore area homes that were affected by the flooding from Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath.
• In Coral Gables, Florida, 20 volunteers worked at the Overtown Youth Center, providing cleanup to both outdoor and indoor areas. Overtown offers academic and recreational programs in a safe environment within the inner city.
We’re active members of the communities we serve. That’s why at Stantec, we always design with community in mind.
