TAMPA, FL – In preparation for the forthcoming fall season, Second Screen Cult Cinema – Tampa Bay’s premiere, locally curated film series – recently announced a pair of underseen horror films they will be screening at The Vault in downtown Tampa this September and October. Second Screen brings The Innocents to The Vault’s beautiful, historic space on Sep. 9, and Dario Argento’s Suspiria on Oct. 14.
Held the second Wednesday of every month, each evening begins at 6 p.m. with a swanky cocktail hour, which features eclectic music, themed craft cocktails, and food available for purchase from quality local restaurants and catering companies. Each screening begins at 7:30 p.m. A suggested donation of $5 can be made before entering The Vault to attend the event, and seating is limited to 150 guests. The monthly series also has seasonal memberships available for $50.
Second Screen kicks of their “Frightful Fall Features” with The Innocents on Wednesday, Sep. 9, from 6 to 10 p.m. at The Vault. The 1961 British supernatural thriller, which was boldly filmed in stark black & white using minimal lighting, is a deeply unsettling and atmosphere masterpiece of psychological gothic horror. Based on Henry James’ novella The Turn of the Screw, the plot centers around a governess (played by the incredible Deborah Kerr) who comes to fear that the mansion and two children she watches over are haunted and possessed by malevolent spirits.
Launched in February as a nonprofit organization by a collective of friends and film aficionados entrenched in the local arts scene, Second Screen Cult Cinema is currently the only curated monthly film series in the Tampa Bay area that presents unconventional and unforgettable cult films geared towards adult movie-goers (18+) looking for a refreshingly unique cinematic experience. Second Screen’s goal is to enrich the Greater Tampa Bay cultural arts community and to enhance Tampa’s flourishing downtown core.
Constructed in 1919, The Vault is the historic Exchange National Bank transformed into a modern event venue in the heart of Downtown Tampa’s arts district. For more information, visit TheVaultTampa.com or call (813) 225-3450.
