The building which houses its Behavioral Health Program to remain intact
Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough, Florida (August 13, 2015) – Medical Center of Trinity has announced that it will demolish its older building on its west campus in favor of future considerations for the property. After spending the past few years exploring a variety of options, officials have determined that the best approach would be to demolish the unused portion of the campus – approximately 300,000 square feet. Over the years it has been difficult to identify programs or services for a building designed to be a hospital due to room configurations. In addition the age of the unused portion makes renovation cost prohibitive. Through removal the hospital creates an opportunity for new development.
Only the unused portion of the building will be demolished. Its most recent addition (built in 1999) which houses the Behavioral Health Program, will remain. No programs or services will be impacted. The hospital’s Behavioral Health Program will continue normal operations throughout the project.
The cost of the demolition is projected to be $1.5 million and will start in late August/early September 2015. The entire project will take from five to seven months to complete. Heavy machinery will be used to pull down and remove the building in sections.
In response, city manager Debbie Manns said, “The city has been and continues to work with the hospital to ensure the redevelopment of the property and the potential for additional services and jobs for the West Pasco area.”
In discussing the project, Medical Center of Trinity CEO, Leigh Massengill, praised the city of New Port Richey; “We appreciate the cooperation and support we have received from the city staff and believe they are truly a partner to Medical Center of Trinity in the future use of this site.”
