Local Women to be Honored at Pearls of Wisdom Luncheon in October
St. Petersburg, FL – “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent,” may go down in history as one of the most empowering pearls of wisdom quoted from Eleanor Roosevelt. That brief statement made an impact on girls and young women of the time, and continues to today. YWCA Tampa Bay will recognize and celebrate that leadership, inspiration and encouragement during the organization’s Pearls of Wisdom luncheon event on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at the Hilton St. Petersburg Carillon Park. This inspiring event will also award Gems of the Community – women who have made a significant impact, crossed racial, economic or societal boundaries and empowered others in a variety of areas including business, philanthropy, community service and under 30. The honorees for 2015 are:
Beth Houghton, Executive Director, St. Petersburg Free Clinic
Angela Rouson, President, National Council of Negro Women
Senator Arthenia Joyner, Florida District 19
Kristina Alspaw, Visitor Experience Manager, St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce
Dion Lim, anchor and reporter for WTSP 10 News, will serve as master of ceremonies where the awards luncheon will feature a pre-event networking reception of regional leaders in business and community organizations; as well as a silent auction of unique handbags, jewelry, and other specialty items. A limited number of VIP tickets will provide guests with an exclusive opportunity to meet Gems of the Community honorees, special guests, and those selected for their pearls of wisdom contributions.
YWCA Tampa Bay encourages all women in the community to submit a succinct, insightful saying, piece of advice, or moral precept. Submission information can be found at www.ywcaoftampabay.org. A select number of these “pearls” and the women who contributed tips on life instruction – possibly what they might tell their younger self – will be shared as inspiration during the Pearls of Wisdom luncheon and awards ceremony.
