Hudson, Florida (July 24, 2015) – Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point announces the inaugural recipients of its Excellence in Nursing Awards. “The Excellence in Nursing Awards were created to honor the exceptional work of our nurses in a more direct and formal capacity,” said hospital CNO Tanya Simpson. There are two Excellence in Nursing Awards; one for each of two categories:
Compassionate Care: A nurse who demonstrates exceptional nursing knowledge and expert skills, and consistently applies both with compassion and integrity, so that the quality of the care experience and the care outcomes are improved for patients in any clinical nursing or nursing specialty.
Professional Mentoring: A nurse who advances nursing practice in any clinical setting or nursing specialty by guiding or supporting career development for individuals or groups of nurses or by advancing evidence-based nursing knowledge.

The HCA Excellence in Nursing Award in Compassionate Care was awarded to Lisa Zielinski. The HCA Excellence in Nursing Award in Professional Mentoring was awarded to Debra Brandt.
About Lisa Zielinski, RN
Lisa Zielinski is a cardiology nurse who works in the hospital’s Imaging Department. Ms. Zielinski’s nominations reflect a reputation for outstanding care to patients and advocacy for their needs as well as ensuring the educational needs of the employees in the clinical areas. “Lisa shows compassion and empathy toward all of her patients. She uses her sense of humor to calm patients fears and anxiety. Lisa plays a vital role in the daily activities and is always willing to help others,” said one nomination. Another said, “She educates staff on medications and proper paperwork including time outs. She keeps our patients’ care and safety before everything and she leads the department to do the same by her example.” And another, “She uses her humor and excellent patient care skills to promote positive outcomes. She educates the technologists on nursing policies/procedures, patient safe medications, etc. I do not know what our department would do without her.”
About Debra Brandt, RN/MSN
Debra Brandt’s nominations were all united in praising her for “setting the example, whether it is in her professional achievements of obtaining her Master’s degree when giving the personal example in communicating with both patients and physicians.” One nomination stated, “Debbie is a true educator and mentor at heart. She is always thinking about ways to give new nurses more experience and training, encouraging them to take classes and steering them into rooms to observe and participate in new procedures.” Ms. Brandt also teaches one day a week at Pasco Hernando State College.
Winners of the Excellence in Nursing Awards each receive a cash award of $250. Each winner also received a plaque, a front row parking spot or a pass in the physician’s parking lot for a full year, a beautiful large dish garden and their photos are displayed in the hospital’s front entrance.
