TRINITY, FLORIDA (July 14, 2015)—A bit of the Pacific Northwest’s coffee culture has come to Trinity, Florida. Perks Coffeehouse will celebrate its Grand Opening event on Friday, July 24 (11:30 am – 1:00 pm), thanks to little help from Pasco Economic Development Council, Inc.’s microloan program.
When she moved to Florida from Olympia, Washington nearly six years ago, Perks’ owner, Clara Vanderhoof, did not realize how much she had come to treasure the experience of the coffeehouses she once frequented. It soon became her vision to open a similar establishment that could make her feel more at home, all while giving the community a relaxing place where friends could gather or professionals could conduct a business meeting while enjoying a cup of specialty coffee. In March, Vanderhoof was awarded a microloan to help in securing equipment, obtaining initial inventory, and hiring employees.
“The Trinity area is growing fast, and we are excited to bring Perks Coffeehouse to this flourishing community,” said Vandehoof. “The microloan program made it possible to make this dream a reality sooner than expected.”
According to Pepperdine University’s 2014 Capital Markets Report, 89 percent of business owners are looking to grow their businesses in 2014 but only 46 percent have the financial resources to do it. Also, only 39 percent of the small businesses in the University’s survey that sought business loans were actually approved. Six percent were declined for being too small, and 4 percent were declined for insufficient operating history. Pasco EDC’s microloan program, which was funded by Pasco County, local banks, and other Pasco EDC Investors, seeks to remedy this problem.
Companies that need help obtaining non-traditional financing and are headquartered in Pasco County, or planning to locate in Pasco County, should consider applying for a microloan through Pasco EDC. Visit www.pascoedc.com for more information on how to apply.
Perks Coffeehouse is located in Trinity Village Center at 10720 State Road 54, Suite 105 in Trinity. The Trinity-Odessa Chamber will also be on hand during the July 24th Grand Opening event for a ribbon cutting.
