TAMPA, Fla. – July 7, 2015 — Statewide law firm Broad and Cassel today announced that Robert “Rob” Sickles has joined the firm’s Tampa office as managing partner. Sickles joins the firm along with his associate, John Gaset.
Sickles will manage the day-to-day operations of the Tampa office and be a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group. From 2000 to 2009, Sickles played an integral role in growing Broad and Cassel’s automotive industry team, quickly rising to achieve partnership and even serving as the team’s co-chair at one point. He returns to Broad and Cassel after six years as a partner at Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in Tampa.

Sickles has substantial experience representing clients in consumer finance-related litigation. This includes the representation of clients in all aspects of the automotive industry – having served as counsel for more than 250 licensed motor vehicle dealerships throughout Florida. He has recently expanded the automotive representation into Georgia and Ohio and currently serves as outside general counsel to a number of franchise and independent auto dealers as well as the Florida Independent Automobile Dealers Association (FIADA).
Additionally, Sickles is well known for his diverse and extensive class action defense and complex litigation practice.

Sickles is a member of state bars in Florida, Georgia and Ohio. He also is admitted in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit; the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida; the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida; the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia; the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia; the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida; the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida; the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Georgia; the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Georgia; and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Ohio.
A frequent presenter at auto industry events and author of numerous articles on various dealership issues, Sickles is highly regarded throughout the legal and auto dealers industry. Additionally, he has been active in various community organizations locally in Tampa, including Crisis Center of Tampa Bay and Leadership Tampa, and has served as a youth sports coach.
Sickles received his bachelor’s degree from Washington and Jefferson College and earned his juris doctor from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
Also joining Broad and Cassel’s Tampa office from Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is Associate John Gaset. He is a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group and dedicates his practice to commercial, consumer, class action and complex civil litigation in Florida’s state and federal courts.
He is a member of The Florida Bar, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
Gaset holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida in Orlando and earned his juris doctor from Florida State University College of Law in Tallahassee, where he served as an articles editor for the Florida State University Law Review.
News of Sickles and Gaset joining the firm is just the latest growth announcement for Broad and Cassel across the state.
