A cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment can be financially devastating for an individual or a family. Many patients are out of work for six months or longer they the recover from surgeries and undergo additional treatment.
The L.Y.N. (Love Your Neighbor) Fund, a not-for-profit, 501 (c)(3) public charity, has been established to provide limited assistance with living expenses to patients battling women’s cancers in Pinellas and Pasco counties.
Edwinna Morrin, David Morrin, Joanne Krapf and Erica Lynford, founders of the L.Y.N. Fund, were friends who had come together to help Linda Tauber of Palm Harbor, Joanne’s sister, after she was diagnosed in 2009 with triple-negative breast cancer. Linda lost her battle in 2010; Edwinna was diagnosed with breast cancer the following year. Following early detection and treatment, she is now cancer-free.
Up through the establishment of the L.Y.N. Fund, the group had collectively raised more than $100,000 for breast cancer charities, families and friends who needed financial assistance due to a cancer diagnosis.
The L.Y.N. Fund raises funds through community events and contributions from individuals and businesses. The Fund distributes short-term financial aid for basic living expenses on behalf of patients with women’s cancers who have lost all or part of their income during active treatment. Payments are made directly to patients’ creditors.
