MUSE will celebrate artistic inspiration on Friday, January 29, 2016 at the Museum of Fine Arts. The St. Petersburg’s third annual fundraising benefit for the arts will recognize the breadth and beauty of art and culture in our City of the Arts, and pay tribute to those that continue to inspire and guide St. Petersburg to its standing as an international arts destination. Proceeds will benefit artists, arts education, and arts & cultural organizations through our Arts Alliance programs and services.
We are pleased to announce that Steven Kenny has been chosen as the visual artist for the third annual MUSE event. His artwork, The Pinnacle, will be our featured poster this year.
Steven Kenny’s oil paintings are technically reminiscent of the Old Masters while depicting a contemporary blending of the human figure with elements from nature. During his 31-year artistic career, his paintings have been exhibited worldwide, garnered many awards, and can be found in private, corporate, and museum collections. His home and studio are located in the newly established Artist Enclave of Historic Kenwood in St Petersburg.
The Pinnacle depicts a moment of creative equilibrium. A ballet dancer gracefully balances on the pinnacle of a mountaintop at the height of her artistic potential. Her feet rest on the black egg of inspiration from which future ideas will be born. She wears a tutu made of twigs, an imaginative nest of her own design in which she feels perfectly at home. Her headdress is a white bird, a symbol of expressive freedom and visionary innovation.
MUSE will be an unforgettable signature event. No stiff tuxes, no boring speeches; no rubber chicken dinner. It’s the art community’s pARTy to uniquely celebrate the Muses of St. Petersburg. Creative pARTy attire suggested – this is a night to revel in our creative spirits! Events include interactive digital art, pop-up performances, artful by-the-bite dinner courses, curated auction items, and the MUSE Arts Awards, which add up to a truly different type of benefit in the Museum’s conservatory.
The St. Petersburg Arts Alliance is the only 501(c) 3 nonprofit dedicated to raising funds for our entire arts community. MUSE sponsorship helps us help all our arts groups. We facilitate the monthly St. Petersburg Second Saturday ArtWalk; publish ArtBeat, the only countywide e-newsletter with calls for arts and other cultural news; and present arts education and professional development programs.
