ST.PETERSBURG, FL – March 3, 2015 – In recognition of its five-year partnership supporting Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County’s affordable homeownership program, HSN was honored as “Corporate Partner of the Year” during the nonprofit’s second annual Blueprint gala, February 21st, at the Hilton St. Petersburg Bayfront. Mindy Grossman, CEO of HSNi, and Bill Brand, president of HSN, accepted the “Golden Hammer” award from Habitat Pinellas board chair Julie Klavans and CEO Mike Sutton and, on behalf of 2014 recipient Raymond James, Bill Van Law, president, Raymond James Investment Advisors Division.
Through its philanthropic arm, HSN Cares, HSN has sponsored six homes, including a home that will begin construction in Pinellas Park this spring for the Pierce family. Since early 2011, HSN Cares has contributed over 2,000 volunteer hours and $400,000 to Habitat Pinellas, making the dream of homeownership a reality for low-income families in Pinellas County. Brand developed HSN Cares to empower women and support families in need at a local, national and global level and to encourage HSN’s employees to embrace the community and make positive impacts on those they encounter.
“I believe that the way to have a sustainable long term business is to have an incredible culture,” said Grossman. “And we truly have a culture of generosity at our company and our employees are passionate. Not just for what they do every day, but the impact that they can have. There are three words that really define that. They are passionate, they are purposeful, and they strive to have impact. It is an honor and a joy for everyone to be able to participate.”
In addition to home sponsorships and employee participation on the build sites, HSN has sponsored several Habitat Pinellas fundraising efforts including the Blueprint gala and the annual Blitz Build event and has consistently donated product to the Golfing Fore Habitat tournament and the Habitat Pinellas ReStore home improvement retail center.
“HSN has built an incredible culture of philanthropy and volunteerism within its organization that has benefited countless lives, not just locally, but globally,” said Sutton. “Here in our own community, we are grateful that Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County has been a major beneficiary of HSN’s extraordinary generosity and employee commitment.”

About Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County:
Since 1985, Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County has constructed 322 homes for struggling families in Pinellas County, using locally raised funds. Volunteers and the future homeowners construct the homes, which are sold at no profit and financed with a zero-interest loan. Habitat Pinellas homeowner candidates earn 30 to 80 percent of area median income. For Pinellas County, that translates to as little as $22,500 a year for a family of four. Candidates must also demonstrate need for adequate shelter; ability to pay back a zero-interest loan and willingness to partner with Habitat Pinellas to invest 250 to 350 sweat equity hours. Mortgage monies are used to build even more homes, making each donation to Habitat a perpetual legacy to the community. Habitat believes that home ownership contributes to family stability, leading in turn to community stability. Additionally, Habitat Pinellas raises funds through their ReStore, a home improvement outlet where donated household and building items are sold to the public.
