SARASOTA, Fla. Dec. 30, 2014 – ShelterBox USA, an international disaster relief organization with its U.S. headquarters based in Lakewood Ranch, has promoted Sarah Shelton to volunteer program manager.
ShelterBox provides humanitarian aid—emergency shelter and other supplies, such as blankets, water filtration systems and mosquito netting among other tools to help families rebuild their lives after losing their homes and possessions following a disaster such as earthquake, volcano, flood, hurricane, cyclone, tsunami or conflict.
Shelton joined ShelterBox in 2012 as a program coordinator and has been working with the organization’s volunteers who raise awareness and funds in support of its relief efforts.
“Sarah has shown her passion for our mission as well as the depth of her capabilities in managing our volunteer program,” said Emily Sperling, president of ShelterBox USA. “She has been a substantial asset to our team.”
As volunteer program manager, Shelton will continue recruiting and training the organization’s volunteers located throughout the United States. She also creates and manages programs that allow youth to engage with ShelterBox while ultimately becoming better global citizens.
Prior to joining ShelterBox, Shelton has a long history of volunteering, service and managing youth programs. She holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Florida where she majored in family, youth and community sciences.
ShelterBox assists families abroad and within the U.S. Currently, the organization is responding to Typhoon Hagupit and Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, flooding in Pakistan and Niger, Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone, conflict in Iraq, and the Syrian refugee crisis.
