LAKELAND, FL (December 18, 2014) – Mayor Howard Wiggs and Mrs. Ana Rivera, President of the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Chamber of Commerce introduce the “Mayor’s Hispanic Advisory Council” on Tuesday, January 6 , 2015, at 1:00 p.m. in the City Commission Chambers. The Council will consist of a Chair (Mayor Wiggs), Vice Chair (Ana Rivera), Secretary (Dr. Joe Perez) and Treasurer (Javier Marin) plus 12 Ambassadors from the community representing the Americas. Along with ambassadors there will be a Task Force and subcommittees.
The Mission of the Council is as follows:
The Hispanic Advisory Council of the City of Lakeland exists to serve as a liaison between the Hispanic community and the Mayor and City Commission. The Council will provide viable recommendations on policies that will advance the social, economic and political issues of all Hispanics and citizens in the City of Lakeland.
After the Introduction Ceremony participants will travel to Just Dance Studios on South Kentucky Avenue at 4:00 p.m. to hand out toys to needy children in Lakeland from the Just Cares, Inc. team. Special guests at the Just Dance Studios will be the Three Wise Men (Three Kings) a holiday tradition within the Hispanic community. Gifts will be for children that were chosen by Just Cares, Inc. This will be the first event hosted by the Council in an ongoing program during the 12 Days of Christmas between the Advisory Council and Just Cares, Inc.
