LAKELAND, FL (Dec. 4, 2014) – Laura Simpson, executive director of Main Street Bartow, will be the guest speaker at the monthly professional development meeting of the Dick Pope/Polk County chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) scheduled for 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17 at the Cleveland Heights Golf & Country Club in Lakeland. The meeting is open to the public.
Simpson, who became Main Street Bartow’s new Executive Director in October, will discuss the public relations strategies and tools she uses to enhance the community’s identity and encourage the preservation, economic stability and improvement of the downtown core in a talk titled “Downtown Bartow: Main Street Bartow’s Plan to Preserve and Improve.”
“We look forward to welcoming Laura and hearing all about the unique public relations initiatives she and her team are implementing,” said Amy Wiggins, president of the Dick Pope/Polk County FPRA chapter.
A sixth generation Floridian from Bartow, Simpson began her career in 1998 as an administrative assistant at the Lakeland Area Chamber of Commerce. After earning a BA degree at Warner Southern College, she was hired as Vice President of the Greater
Brandon Chamber of Commerce in 2000 and in 2013 was named President and CEO.
During her tenure at the Brandon chamber, Simpson gained valuable experience
in the areas of community and economic development, government relations and program
management. This experience prepared her well for her new leadership position at Main Street Bartow.
