Spring Hill, Florida (December 3, 2014) – On November 25 the Hernando County Medical Society hosted an educational seminar at Oak Hill Hospital given by David W. Price, MD, FAAFP (Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians), and Director of the Multi-specialty Maintenance of Certification Portfolio Approval Program for the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS).
The mission of the American Board of Medical Specialties is to serve the public and the medical profession by improving the quality of healthcare through setting professional standards for life-long certification in partnership with its member boards. Presently there are 24 Federations of ABMS Boards granting board certification to 800,000 physicians. The 24 ABMS member boards represent 37 specialties and 123 subspecialties.
The multi-specialty MOC (Maintenance of Certification) Portfolio Approval Program offers a single process for healthcare organizations and physicians to continually involve themselves in quality improvement efforts. These efforts involve physicians across the many disciplines and specialties encompassed in the ABMS. Thus, there is a standardized method of allowing physicians to continually maintain certification and this standardized process crosses multiple disciplines and specialties.
Oak Hill Hospital may be one of the first community hospitals to participate in the new ABMS Portfolio Program providing a framework for physicians to improve the quality and report the results in the certification process through hospital core quality measures.
“It is expected that this partnership will further improve the quality of care at Oak Hill Hospital and facilitate physician development and excellence,” said Deborah H. Tracy, MD, MBA, President of the Hernando County Medical Society.
