(Bradenton, FL – November 26, 2014) Fill a shoebox — and a senior’s heart — with Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee this holiday season. Meals on Wheels PLUS is seeking assistance to fill wrapped shoeboxes with small gifts for their homebound clients. Shoeboxes can be brought to the 9th annual Holiday Community Shoebox Drive Reception from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 14 at The Ranch Grill, 14475 State Road 70 in Lakewood Ranch. Admission is free with one filled and wrapped shoebox or with a $20 donation to Meals on Wheels PLUS. The Ranch Grill will provide complimentary appetizers. Attendees will receive one raffle ticket for prizes ranging from Disney tickets to restaurant gift certificates with each shoebox donation. Additional chances will also be available for purchase.
“Our clients are homebound and often alone,” said Maribeth Phillips, CEO of Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee. “It is truly special to watch our senior clients’ eyes light up when they are presented with their shoebox. They are sincerely grateful, and for some, it may be the only gift they receive this holiday season.”
Boxes also can be dropped off at Renaissance on 9th, 1816 9th Street West or at the administrative offices at 811 23rd Avenue East, both in Bradenton. The tops and bottoms of the boxes should be wrapped separately and marked to indicate whether they are appropriate for a man or woman, or are gender neutral. Gift ideas include lotions, hand soap, shampoo, toothpaste, lotions, slippers, pens, stationery and other nonperishable necessities. The wrapped boxes will be delivered to recipients of Meals on Wheels PLUS home-delivered meals with their regular deliveries in December.
Meals on Wheels PLUS has delivered the shoebox gifts to Manatee County seniors for more than 30 years. In 2013, 900+ packages were distributed to their homebound clients.
Anyone who wishes to make a donation can call 941-747-4655.
Sponsors of the December 14 reception are The Ranch Grill, Schroeder Manatee Ranch, Herald Tribune Media Group, Pro-Motion Notions, Tidemark Financial Services & Insurance, Living On The Suncoast Magazine, Vanessa Fine Jewelry, Pool Design Concepts, LLC, Affordable Attorney, PhotoGraphic Media and Sugar Cubed.
