Hanging out, drinking delicious coffee, talking about art… ahhhh, that’s the life! Well, that IS the life at least for an hour or so each month at the Dunedin Fine Art Center’s Coffee and Conversation series. Enjoy FREE coffee (Presented by the Sterling Society of DFAC) and FREE insights as each month’s invited guest holds forth on their own area of expertise.
Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 12 noon, the series brings you a holiday GIFT, by hosting artist Holly Bird. Holly, an award-winning printmaker, artist and graphic designer will share some of her block prints and their connection to her involvement in the Arts & Crafts Movement style and the Roycroft Revival. She’ll include a brief overview of the Arts & Crafts Movement and the enormous importance printmaking played.
Holly Bird is an award-winning printmaker, artist and graphic designer. Her career as a designer and illustrator has ranged from storyboarding Caddyshack and other movies and television to working as a magazine art director, advertising illustrator, a TV broadcast senior designer (at WTVT FOX13 Tampa) and as a Softimage|3D animator.
After teaching design at USF, IADT and both adult and youth art classes at the Dunedin Fine Art Center, she’s since been exhibiting as a professional artist, working on relief block printing and copper plate etching in her home studio, Studio Ibis. She is in her fifth year juried as a Roycroft Renaissance Artisan-At-Large, working in the revival of the American Arts & Crafts Movement with other printmakers and artisans.
An avid sailor of traditional small craft, some of her block print work reflects her love for boating and Florida’s coastal water and birds, while her etching is more mythic and personal. Holly’s a gardener, making her yard more Florida friendly for wildlife using native trees plants and she maintains a large vegetable garden with her mom. Her art can be seen at http://www.studioibis.com/ and her art blog is “The Aerie” at http://hollybirdaerie.blogspot.com/. She lives with her husband, her mom and a big, weird mutt on a sprawling, sandy acre in Palm Harbor, FL
