Tampa, FL – The Outback Bowl officially unveiled its new trophy today which will be awarded annually to the champion of the New Year’s Day college football game. The bowl plays host to teams from the Big Ten Conference and Southeastern Conference on Thursday, January 1st with a Noon kickoff in Raymond James Stadium.
The trophy is made entirely of crystal and because of the bowls Australian themed title sponsor it includes a boomerang attached to a beveled base capped-off with a faceted football on top. It is 22 inches high and weighs-in at 60 pounds. It was designed and produced by Levy Marketing Awards of Tampa. A special travel case was customized for the trophy as well.
“The Outback Bowl is considered a spectacular post-season experience for the teams and fans and we wanted a unique trophy to properly represent the significance that such a Championship deserves,” notes Outback Bowl President/CEO Jim McVay. “These teams will truly be battling for this coveted piece of Tampa Bay Treasure.”

The Outback Bowl will host its 29th game this season. The Bowl historically attracts an average of 35,000 out of market visitors from more than 40 states each year who join local fans at the game. It has contributed more than $117 million to universities over its history and generated an estimated $1 billion economic impact on the Tampa Bay area over this time in addition to tens of millions of dollars in exposure for the region each year.
