CLEARWATER, FL (November 21, 2014) – Clearwater Arts Alliance announces the inaugural season of Pianos in Pinellas, November 25 through December 31, 2014. Eleven upright painted pianos will be placed in eleven prominent locations throughout Pinellas for the public to enjoy the art and play the pianos.
The pianos have been donated by Randy’s Wholesale Pianos and artistically painted in a variety of styles depicting life in our community. Artists include, Agnes Black, Steven Spathelf, Ya La’Ford, Beth Warmath and the students of Pinellas Primary Academy, Ann Feldshue, Junior Polo, Liz Smith, Don Scali, Robert Daltry, Don Gillepie, June Harben, Sylvia Shanahan, and Lizbeth Graham.
The eleven pianos have been sponsored and hosted by local art supporters who view this project as an ideal catalyst to elevate our community as an Arts and Cultural friendly region and to promote cultural tourism throughout the area. The public art pianos will also become public music entities and played by visitors and residents of Pinellas. “This project has really created a huge buzz as it appeals to art lovers and musicians alike,” said Colin Bissett, Project Director. “We’re hoping for an enormous turnout especially during this festive season with choirs, impersonators, jazz jams, blues and more, the list is only limited by one’s imagination”.
Locations for the pianos will include Island Way Grill, Pelican Walk, Stirling Commons, Cleveland Street, Greektown Grille, Frenchy’s Outpost, Pier 60, Clearwater Marine Aquarium, Winter’s Exhibit, Ruth Eckerd Hall, Pinellas County Courthouse, Nature’s Food Patch, and Randy’s Wholesale Pianos.
As part of Pianos in Pinellas, performers will be encouraged to video their performance and send a link to Clearwater Arts Alliance where the entries will be judged. Winners will be selected and will perform at the Encore Party on January 14 at Winter’s Dolphin Tale Adventure on Cleveland Street. The Encore Party will also be the location where the art pianos will be auctioned off to interested art and music lovers.
