Lakeland, Fla., Nov. 11, 2014 (MindShare Strategies Media Services) – Saddle Creek was recognized for its commitment to sustainability this week. The company earned a 2014 Green Supply Chain Award from Supply & Demand Chain Executive magazine.
The Green Supply Chain Awards recognize companies that are making sustainability a core part of their supply chain strategy and working to achieve measurable sustainability goals within their own operations or assisting their customers to achieve measurable sustainability goals. Submissions were judged based on the clarity and content of the goals and strategy, the extent of the steps being taken, the impact of the results to date and projected results, and the form and presentation of the information submitted. Saddle Creek was selected from nearly 200 entries.
Saddle Creek earned this year’s award for its on-going investment in a compressed-natural-gas (CNG), for-hire fleet. Since launching its ground-breaking CNG initiative in 2012, the company has rapidly expanded from a small fleet of 40 Freightliner CNG tractors to 175 tractors – now representing more than 40 percent of the company’s total for-hire fleet. Plans are underway to replace the entire fleet of diesel trucks in the next few years. The trucks support customers’ local and regional delivery needs in the Southeast, carrying a wide variety of products – from medical supplies to home paper products. Customers appreciate the opportunity to make deliveries while reducing their environmental footprint. Just this year, the fleet has traveled more than 24 million miles on CNG, saving about a pound a mile.
“We take pride in being responsible corporate citizens and are honored to be recognized for our commitment to sustainability,” said Cliff Otto, Saddle Creek CEO. “With every mile we travel, our CNG fleet helps to reduce our carbon footprint. That’s good news for Saddle Creek, our customers and the environment.”
