St. Petersburg, Fla. (November 10, 2014) – “Florida may not be having a white Christmas this December,” says Cincinnati Pops conductor John Morris Russell, “but the Pops is the next best thing!” Russell and Ohio’s best-loved orchestra will spread the cheer with their annual Holiday Pops concert, Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014 at 7 p.m. at The Mahaffey Theater.
There’s a special treat under the Cincinnati Pops tree this year – guest vocalist for the evening will be Tony-winning actor and singer Brian Stokes Mitchell, whose rich baritone has been lighting up Broadway musicals since the early 1990s. For many, Mitchell is best known as Dr. Crane’s resolute upstairs neighbor, Cam Winston, on the classic TV series Frasier.
The program will consist of popular holiday-themed classic carols and contemporary favorites, including many tunes featured on the Cincinnati Pops’ recent Home for the Holidays album (which featured Brian Stokes Mitchell on vocals). Home For the Holidays is the venerable ensemble’s career 92nd recording.
Adds Russell: “The Cincinnati Pops maintains its world-renowned reputation through its recording legacy, and our programs in Florida will be chock-full of selections from its three celebrated holiday CDs. Brian Stokes Mitchell adds a remarkable dimension to the program with his spellbinding artistry, and of course in Pops tradition we’ll have some delightful surprises as well.”
Tickets are $29.50, $42.50, $57.50 and $72.50, and may be purchased online at TheMahaffey.com, charge by phone at 727.893.7832 or in person at The Mahaffey Theater Box Office.
