November 8, 2014, Tampa, FL–Wheels of Success, a Tampa Bay nonprofit organization that provides vehicles and vehicle repairs to local families so that they can maintain their employment, will be handing over the keys to the charity’s newest recipient at Motorfest Weekend on Saturday November 8th. The event takes place at the Showtime Speedway located at 4550 Ulmerton Rd. in Clearwater, Florida.4550
James P. is a retired 8-year U.S. Navy veteran who is currently homeless. At a time of need, James turned to the Homeless Emergency Project for transitional housing and guidance. In the past James had relied on a bicycle for transportation to and from his job, but when it was stolen he knew he needed a more reliable and consistent form of transportation. Despite his personal situation, James has consistently maintained full-time employment for the past two years. Homeless Emergency Project initially referred him to Wheels of Success and its Vehicles for Veterans program to help him with transportation because having a reliable car is vital to helping him get to work–and stay on his feet.
James was initially provided with a large van to support his goal of starting a small commercial cleaning business. Since that time he has successfully completed the Wheels of Success program, which includes paying off the vehicle. His small commercial cleaning business is no longer part of his future plans and having such a large vehicle is no longer economical. State Farm is putting James into a smaller vehicle and his van will be going to a family of seven who have been “waiting for wheels” because we did not have a vehicle large enough to transport them all.
The 2007 Toyota Corolla donated by State Farm marks the 24th vehicle they have donated to Wheels of Success. Says Susan Jacobs, founder and CEO of Wheels of Success, “Our Vehicles for Veterans program was created by State Farm. We cannot thank them enough for their continued support in providing working individuals and their families with reliable transportation. They are one of largest supporters and an invaluable community partner for our organization.”
