ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (November 3, 2014) – On the bootheels of his acclaimed The Calm After… album, country music superstar Travis Tritt comes to The Mahaffey Theater for an intimate, solo acoustic concert Sunday, February 8 at 7 p.m.
Travis Tritt was an integral part of the electrified honky tonk resurgence of the early 1990s, and his gritty, straight-from-the-hip approach landed five No. 1 hits in quick succession – “Help Me Hold On,” “Anymore,” “Can I Trust You With My Heart,” “Foolish Pride” and “Best of Intentions.” His multi-platinum albums include Ten Feet Tall and Bulletproof, Country Club and Down the Road I Go. His landmark 1991 release It’s All About to Change was certified three times platinum.
Many things separated Tritt from his young contemporaries. He never wore a cowboy hat, and from the get-go refused to dial down the Southern rock influences in his music. And he never stuck to a “formula,” writing and recording honky tonk, old-time country, rockers, big ballads and even rhythm and blues songs, as he saw fit.
Author Zell Miller wrote that the Georgia-born Tritt has an “unerring ability to walk the narrow path between his country heritage and his rock leanings, to the acclaim of the devotees of both.”
Of the Randy Jackson-produced The Calm After…, allmusic.com wrote “it’s an excellent excursion in soul-injected modern country, one that demonstrates Tritt’s considerable range as a vocalist.”
“The odd thing is, and I can’t explain this, but I think I’m singing better than I did in my 20s and 30s,” the Grammy-winning Tritt says today. “I know it’s not supposed to be that way, but there’s just a control that comes with maturity. Plus, I’ve got a higher range now than I had when I was in my early 30s. And since we started doing the acoustic shows, people come up to me commenting on my singing or, more often, my guitar playing.”
Tickets are $32.50, $42.50 and $52.50, and go on sale to the public on Friday, Nov. 7 at noon.
