New weekly jazz radio show and concert videocast series kicks off
TAMPA, Fla. (October 29, 2014) – WUSF Public Media announces the launch of “Jazz Night in America,” a new one-hour weekly public radio show, concert video webcast series and an on-demand online jazz hub. The weekly radio program, hosted by renowned bassist, Christian McBride, airs on Saturdays from 8-9 p.m. on WUSF 89.7 FM. “Jazz Night in America” is an innovative new collaboration between NPR Music, Jazz at Lincoln Center and WBGO centered on great concerts and the stories behind them.
“We’re thrilled to launch this new program,” said Bob Seymour, Jazz Director for WUSF Public Media. “Jazz Night in America brings our audience the best jazz performances from venues throughout the country, and tells the stories behind this fascinating music. And we couldn’t have a better host than Christian McBride, one of the brightest stars in the jazz world. The combination of this great hour on the radio every Saturday, with the beautifully-produced webcasts of concert recordings, will bring this music home to our listeners in wonderful new ways every week.”
In addition to the weekly radio show, “Jazz Night in America” is hosting a season of signature concert videocasts featuring live jazz performances. The upcoming videocast, airing on October 29, will showcase highlights from “Blue Note At 75, The Concert,” from the Concert Hall of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Celebrating the 75th anniversary of the iconic jazz record label, Blue Note Records, the concert features artists such as Wayne Shorter, McCoy Tyner, Lou Donaldson, Bobby Hutcherson, Jason Moran, Robert Glasper, Joe Lovano and Norah Jones, among many other musicians.
“Jazz Night in America” also provides on-demand access to a video catalogue of performances and interviews from today’s great jazz artists and venues, and regular features on NPR newsmagazines. Archives of the radio shows and audio from the concert webcasts will also be available on-demand. For more information, visit: www.npr.org/jazznight.
