Garden Montessori Charter School, Approved to Open in Wesley Chapel in August 2015
The Garden Montessori Charter School (GMCS) Board of Directors is pleased to announce that the Pasco County School Board, at its October 21, 2014 board meeting, unanimously approved the school’s application to open in August of 2015!
Garden Montessori Charter School will be a tuition-free, public Montessori-based K-6 school, applying a Montessori Method approach to the curriculum. GMCS is an off-shoot of the successful Garden Montessori School, located at the corner of Boyette and Wells Road in Wesley Chapel. The charter school is expected to open with an estimated 270 students, capping at approximately 540 in grades K-6. Classrooms, with the exception of Kindergarten, will be multi-aged with twenty-six students and two state certified teachers. The school’s mission will be to provide a nurturing environment with an encouraging, stimulating program based on the teaching principles of Dr. Maria Montessori, allowing children to develop the skills to be responsible, productive, independent, and respectful to themselves, others, the community and the world as future leaders.
Just as the pre-school, GMCS will focus on environmental responsibility and care for the environment, plants and animals, to become a certified “green” school community.
While the school site is yet to be determined, the school will serve children and families in the greater Wesley Chapel area. GMCS will initially open with grades K-2, adding a grade each year. The enrollment period will begin on January 5th with a lottery expected to be held in late February or early March. Several information sessions will be scheduled beginning in early January at a location yet to be determined. Please see details and enrollment updates, as well as contact information on our currently shared website, www.gardenmontessorischool.org as GMCS finalizes development of their official website.
