Summit focuses on exploring collaboration opportunities to build more inclusive services for local Floridians with disabilities
(Washington, D.C. – October 27, 2014) – National Disability Institute (NDI), the first national nonprofit dedicated exclusively to building a better economic future for people with disabilities, will host the Asset Development Summit in collaboration with CareerSource Pinellas in Clearwater, Florida on October 28, 2014.
NDI’s Asset Development Summit will bring together individuals and service providers in the disability, employment, financial services, workforce and asset development communities to identify ways to work together to build a brighter economic future for people with disabilities in and around St. Petersburg and Clearwater.
In coordination with CareerSource Pinellas, this year’s event will take place at the EpiCenter at St. Petersburg College and will help identify opportunities to increase the use of available resources and programs by people with disabilities.
“Today, of the 54 million Americans with disabilities, nearly one in three live in poverty,” said NDI Executive Director, Michael Morris. “With so many individuals in the disability community and their families struggling to make ends meet, events like this are critical to creating a world where all people, with and without disabilities, have the opportunity and ability to achieve financial independence.”
“As the regional workforce board for Pinellas County, CareerSource Pinellas is proud to be a partner in an event that focuses on helping our citizens with disabilities gain employment,” said Ed Peachey, President and CEO of CareerSource Pinellas. “Bringing these agencies together is an important step in identifying solutions to improve education and training in career pathways so these job seekers become self-sufficient.”
National Disability Institute’s Asset Development Summit will run from 8:00am – 12:30pm on Tues., October 28, 2014, at the EpiCenter at St. Petersburg College, 13805 58th Street North, Clearwater, Fla. 33760.
