Local chefs will demonstrate ways to enjoy the bounty of the season
St. Petersburg, FL (Oct. 21, 2014) – The seasonally flavorful, phenomenally successful St. Petersburg Saturday Morning Market (http://www.saturdaymorningmarket.com/) rolls out its new “Taste A La Cart” cooking demonstration station Saturday, Nov. 1.
The custom-made, portable kitchen will feature leading local chefs using ingredients provided by market vendors to prepare delicious dishes that can be duplicated at home.
The inaugural cooking demonstration will be conducted Nov. 1 by Chef Mark Heimann, executive chef and director of restaurant operations at The Vinoy Renaissance Resort & Golf Club.
This new event launches Saturday, Nov. 1, at 12:30 p.m. The station will be set up on a shaded, grassy area near the waterfront and next to Al Lang Stadium parking lot (corner of 1st Street SE and 1st Avenue S). There will be limited seating available on a first come, first served basis. There is no cost for these cooking events and limited, free samples of each week’s freshly prepared dish will be served.
This new live cooking component joins the market’s weekly musical entertainment and the hundreds of vendors who participate in the 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday showcase of local seasonal vegetables, fruits, healthy meats, small batch dairy products, seafood, international ready to eat foods, plants, crafts and more.
“Shoppers will discover, creative new ways to enjoy their favorite foods as well as learn how to prepare foods that they may not have tried before. We are excited to feature fresh, local, seasonal foods expertly prepared by experienced chefs,” said Gail Eggeman, managing director of the market now in its 13th season. “We want people to ask questions during the demonstrations, taste something new and hope they will be inspired to include more healthy foods into their daily diets.”
The St. Petersburg Saturday Morning Market ranks among the leading markets in the U.S. Nearly 200 vendors participate, attracting an estimated 10,000 people per week.
The dishes that will be prepared will be determined by each presenter based on what is available from market vendors and recipes will be provided.
