Hillsborough County’s Pet Resource Center, the County’s animal shelter and the First Place for Pets, invites the community to its First Saturday Celebration on Saturday, November 1, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the facility at 440 N. Falkenburg Road in Tampa. The event will kick off the County’s November pet adoption special: Pets-For-Vets!
In a month-long salute to America’s Armed Forces, the Pet Resource Center will waive adoption fees on all adult cats and dogs (one year of age and older and canines weighing 25 pounds or more) for all active and retired military members. Adoption fees for kittens, puppies, and small breed dogs will also be greatly reduced as part of Pets-For-Vets. Adopters are asked to come in uniform or bring military ID.
The November 1 First Saturday Celebration will also kick off November’s pet adoption special for non-military adopters: just $11 for adult pets (dogs and cats age one year and older and/or dogs 30 pounds or more). All adoptions include spaying/neutering, vaccinations, County license tag, micro-chip and free chip registration. Most pets will be available same-day to leave the shelter with adopters.
First Saturday Celebration also features music, kids’ activities, exhibitors and food trucks. The free events are family-friendly and take place at the County animal shelter on the first Saturday of each month. Aimed at saving lives and boosting community engagement, the events are credited with hundreds of additional positive outcomes for animals since August.
Hillsborough County’s Pet Resource Center is often the first place to receive the community’s lost and surrendered animals, and the shelter hopes to be the first place adopters come to select a new pet. The facility is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for adoptions, lost pet searches, and County pet license tags. The Pet Resource Center will be closed on Veteran’s Day, November 11, in observance of the County holiday.
