Join the EDGE District Main Street for National Food Day and Folkfest Friday!!
St. Petersburg, FL, October 13, 2014: The EDGE District Main Street will be hosting “Food for Folks” – St. Pete’s LONGEST community dining table in celebration of National Food Day! National Food Day is a nationwide celebration and movement towards healthy, affordable, and sustainable food. This year the EDGE District is celebrating by kicking-off Creative Clay’s Folkfest weekend with “Food for Folks” on Folkfest Friday! The newly designated Florida Main Street Program has partnered with the Green Bench Brewing Co., Creative Clay and SUAC (Sustainable Urban Agriculture Coalition) to bring the National Food Day celebration to St. Pete while adding the Folkfest “flair” and excitement with live folk music, art and food!
Food for Folks is a free community event sponsored by the EDGE District Main Street through the Mayor’s Mini Grant program. Residents, business owners and visitors are encouraged to come and join in the fun! First, reserve your seat online at www.EDGEDistrict.org. Next, come to Green Bench Brewing Co. between 6 and 9pm and take your seat at the table! Guests are asked to bring their own picnic or order “Food for Folks Delivery” from one of the EDGE District’s participating restaurants. Finally, enjoy live music by Ella Jet and A Fragile Tomorrow while eating dinner at St. Pete’s LONGEST community dining table! “This is an event that brings the community together and supports locally grown food while kicking off Folkfest weekend,” stated Jessica Arkwright, founder of the EDGE District Farmer’s Market.
St. Petersburg has a growing community of supporters of urban agriculture, community gardens and craft food makers. The event will feature organic plants, seeds and produce from SUAC’s local community gardens, as well as gluten free and vegetarian dishes for purchase by the EDGE District Farmer’s Market vendor Mangia Gourmet. For a $5.00 donation, choose a hand-painted placemat made by Creative Clay artists and grab your seat at the longest community dining table in St. Pete!
