ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Oct. 13, 2014) – Standup comedian, actor and storyteller Mike Birbiglia performs at The Mahaffey Theater Friday, Nov. 21 at 8 p.m.
The Massachusetts native wrote, directed and starred in the 2012 film Sleepwalk With Me, based on his semi-autobiographical one-man show about the anxieties that come with being a working comedian. Time Magazine calls Birbiglia “master of the personal, embarrassing tale.”
Fresh off his award-winning, profoundly embarrassing romantic confessional My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend, Birbiglia is back on the stage with Thank God For Jokes, an all-new comedic exploration of jokes and how they can get you in trouble. Join this masterfully funny monologist as he gets arrested in New Jersey, screamed at by a famous director, heckled by legendary Muppet Show grumps Statler and Waldorf, and attacked by zombie rodents.
He’s a regular contributor to public radio’s This American Life, whose host Ira Glass advises “Birbiglia’s stories are even funnier live than they are on the radio.”
Tickets are $37.50 and $57.50, and may be purchased online at TheMahaffey.com, charge by phone at 727.893.7832 or in person at The Mahaffey Theater Box Office. The Mahaffey Box Office is open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday or at least 90 minutes prior to any ticketed event.
