St. Petersburg Audiologist, Dr. Susan Terry, of Broadwater Hearing Care is offering Complimentary Hearing Screenings in honor of National Audiology Awareness Month during the month of October.
*Do you find it difficult to follow conversations in noisy environments?
*Do you ask people to speak up or repeat themselves?
*Do you experience ringing or noises in your ears?
“Hearing is a precious gift. Hearing loss doesn’t have to be life changing. With today’s hearing devices, we can open a whole new world for you,” said Dr. Susan Terry.
Over 36 million American adults have some degree of hearing loss and Dr. Terry is encouraging everyone to protect their hearing by:
*Wearing hearing protection when around sounds louder than 85dB for 30 minutes or more.
*Turning down the volume when listening to the radio, the TV, MP3 player, or anything through ear buds and headphones.
*Walking away from loud noise.
“Noise-induced hearing loss is caused by damage to the microscopic hair cells, or cilia, which are found in the inner ear. Cilia are small sensory cells that convert the sounds we hear (sound energy) into electrical signals that travel to the brain. Once damaged, our hair cells cannot be repaired or grow back, causing permanent hearing loss.” explains Dr. Susan Terry of Broadwater Hearing Care.
Hearing loss not only affects your ability to understand speech but it also has a negative impact on your social and emotional well-being. Noise-induced hearing loss can occur gradually over time, and people don’t often realize they are changing the way they live to make up for the disability.
If you suspect you may have hearing loss, Dr. Terry encourages you to make an appointment for your Complimentary Hearing Screening.
With over 25 years of servicing the St. Petersburg community, Dr. Terry is committed to finding the right solution for your hearing loss, combined with the latest in hearing technology and providing the best in personal service.
