What’s the quickest way to lower your golf score? Try hitting the ball into a bigger hole! Now you can, thanks to the Big Cup, the star attraction at a tournament sponsored by Edwin Watts Golf on Saturday, November 15, 2014, at the
The Big Cup is one of the most talked about new ideas in golf, a cup that widens the standard four-inch golf hole to a whopping eight or even 15 inches. It was featured recently on HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel. “The Big Cup helps you score better, which of course means you’re having more fun. It also makes the game go much faster because you spend less time putting,” says Doug Domino, the general manager of the Meadows Country Club.
For the day of the Big Cup Tournament only, all of the holes on the Highlands golf course will be replaced with eight-inch cups. There’ll be a four-person scramble format, and golfers will still play to the standard par 72.
There’ll be more to the tourney than just the satisfaction of a better golf score. Each player will be awarded the number of raffle tickets equal to the number of strokes his or her team is under par. And there are great prizes, such as golf packages, equipment, lessons, and gift certificates redeemable for merchandise at Edwin Watts Golf of Sarasota. Prizes will be awarded during a cookout buffet lunch following play.
Plus, proceeds will benefit the Greater Sarasota Junior Golf Association. “That’s the real future of golf,” says Domino.
The shot gun start for the Big Cup Tournament starts at 8:30am on Saturday, November 15, 2014. The cost to play is $50 per person. It all takes place at the Highlands golf course at the Meadows Country Club, 3400 Longmeadow, Sarasota, FL 34235. For more information call or visit Edwin Watts Golf at 4014 S.
