This is the sixth year that Working Mother magazine has included Moffitt on its annual list.
TAMPA, Fla. (Oct. 09, 2014) – Each day, mother Aubrey Benjamin balances raising two daughters with working full time at Moffitt Cancer Center as a registered nurse. Benjamin says Moffitt’s flexibility allows her to further her career while being an active part of her children’s lives.
Moffitt has been named one of the 2014 Working Mother 100 Best Companies. This is the sixth year that Working Mother magazine has included Moffitt on its list. Moffitt was selected for outstanding leadership in establishing policies, programs and corporate culture that supports working moms, including child care, flexible work arrangements, paid parental leave and advancement of women. Companies are also measured on access to and usage of family friendly programs.
“Being a mother is a job where you are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” Benjamin explains. “It can be a challenge to balance your work-life with being a mother, but the flexibility that Moffitt allows me makes it doable and so worth it.”
Benjamin is a supervisor of clinical nursing in the infusion department at Moffitt. She teaches her daughter’s Girl Scout programs, volunteers for the American Cancer Society and utilized Moffitt’s continuing education programs to earn her bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Moffitt offers team members several opportunities, including education assistance, flexible work schedules, and backup child and elder care to help team members to grow in their careers while balancing family life. Parental leave offers new moms an additional four weeks of paid leave, as well as one week of paid leave for new dads and job protection for mothers beyond the 12 weeks provided by the Family and Medical Leave Act, paying 100 percent of a team member’s salary.
“The Working Mother 100 Best Companies are the leaders in the advancement of women by supporting their need to integrate family and work successfully. We are thrilled to honor the U.S. companies that put words into action and build family-friendly cultures on the foundation of thoughtful policies and effective programs. Women now make up 50 percent of our workforce. We need to make sure they have the support to be outstanding moms as well as great team members,” said Carol Evans, Working Mother Media president.
In honor of the 100 Best Companies, Working Mother has declared Tuesday, October 21st as National Flex Day to increase awareness for the importance of workplace flexibility.
