True Health Concierge Centers in Tampa, Florida announced today that it will be launching a new service in Q4, and partnering with local medical doctors to help promote concierge care. The move is in line with a growing movement of physicians who favor private medicine but do not wish to abandon existing patients covered under health insurance, Medicaid and Medicare.
Neurosurgeon Rohit Vasan, MD, a member of True Health’s board of advisors, commented on the direction of the health care industry. “The physician-patient relationship is the heart of all medicine and surgery. Like all relationships, it thrives when it is nurtured internally and suffers under excessive external influence. Doctors and patients find themselves continually frustrated by interference in their professional relationship by third parties who are often uninformed about what is best in a particular patient’s care. Proactive physicians recognize the concierge care movement as an innovation that focuses medicine squarely where it belongs, between the doctor and the patient.”
True Health helps a practicing physician to transition into offering concierge care services, while their practice continues to serve patients who are covered under health insurance, Medicare and Medicaid. The program is unique as it enables physicians to maintain revenue, keep complete control and ownership of their medical practice, while gradually adding the benefits of a concierge care model.
John Fay, the company’s Director of Business Development, weighed in on the topic. “On average, a family physician sees four thousand patients. Trends show the physician population will not keep up with the growth of patient populations. As reimbursements continue to be reduced, and conditions spiral downward, the end result will be extremely difficult to change. Doctors who make a change now will be ahead of the curve, rather than stuck in a slow to change system with very little hope of improvement.”
True Health will be offering physicians customized solutions to entering the concierge care field, without sacrificing ownership, or paying extremely high consulting fees or franchise fees. The True Health website can be found at www.ConciergeDoctorTampa.com.
Concierge care, also known as direct care or boutique medicine, describes a relationship between a patient and a primary care physician in which the patient pays a set annual fee. This may or may not be in addition to other charges. In exchange for this fee, doctors provide service enhancements such as same day appointments, access to the physician’s cell phone and email address, online access to patient records, and other beneficial features. Concierge care offices often limit patient loads to five hundred patients per physician, in order to ensure adequate time and availability for each patient. Many appointment times last one hour rather than twenty minutes.
The benefits of concierge care to the healthcare industry are substantial. Many hospitals see a reduction in patient visits from those who are cared for by a concierge physician. A study conducted by Optum, published in the August 2014 issue of the peer-reviewed American Journal of Managed Care, showed a reduction in Medicare Advantage healthcare spending by $3.7 million.
As the True Health Concierge Care program is implemented in the Tampa market, local health care providers will have access to a plethora of True Health resources. Meanwhile, health care consumers will have more options in the concierge care arena.
