(Tampa, FL – October 7, 2014) A line of shovels rooted into the ground last Thursday officially marked Equity, Inc.’s announcement of construction for the new MLK Himes Medical Plaza. Together with Tampa’s Mayor Bob Buckhorn and Jesuit High School’s Father Hermes, Equity, Inc.’s CEO Steve Wathen welcomed representatives from the business and medical community for a celebration at the development site.
The 36,000 square-foot, Class-A facility will be located at the southeast corner of Himes and Martin Luther King Boulevard. The new building is set to open in August of 2015 and has one-hundred percent commitments from medical tenants. Eager to occupy the new building, Compass Surgery Partners and Davis Facial Plastic Surgery were two of the tenants announced at the event. According to Hamish Williams, Equity Inc.’s Florida Broker, other medical practices will be announced in the coming months.
“Equity is a great company with a long track record for doing good development and we are honored that they are investing in the city,” said Tampa’ Mayor Bob Buckhorn. The medical research of St Joseph’s Hospital coupled with the amazing doctors that practice there makes this type of project a natural fit for the area. We have streamlined the permitting process that allows for more projects like this to be successful.
Father Hermes with Jesuit High School thanked Equity for their involvement in the project. “Partnerships with companies like Equity have helped develop the land Jesuit owns that is not for the direct use of the school.” Those partnerships directly fund Jesuit’s financial aid program; which over $1.5 million was awarded to students this year. Jesuit’s current student body represents seventy-five zip codes and four counties. The scholarship fund makes a Jesuit education accessible to every boy who is qualified regardless of financial means. He closed by thanking Equity’s CEO, Steve Wathen, for his own personal contribution to the financial aid program.
Dr. Dean Davis, of Davis Facial Plastic Surgery said the development will be the premier medical address for Tampa, with excellent specialty care and diversity of practices that will attribute to longer tenant life. “The partnership between Equity and Jesuit is a win-win situation for the practices, Jesuit and the city of Tampa.”
“The Medical Plaza is well positioned to accommodate the ever-changing medical office needs and is the gateway to the medical community” said Carleton Compton, Equity Inc.’s Vice President of Healthcare Leasing.
The new medical plaza will be located next to Panera Bread, in front of One Buc Place, also conveniently located near St. Joseph’s Main Hospital and Women’s Hospital campus. The completion will mark the first multi-tenant medical office building constructed in the area in almost thirty years. The building is an energy efficient design with easy, ample parking.
